GENERAL MEETING JUNE 5, 2007

President Jean Delaney called the meeting to order at 12:55 p.m.  

Secretary’s Report:               Accepted  

Treasurer’s Report:               Accepted  

Corresponding Secretary’s Report: Get well cards were sent to Cecelia Abraham after breaking both arms; to Sally Kimball who is recovering from surgery; to Katie Mulhall who is recovering from surgery and to Betty Hayes who fractured her hip.  Sympathy cards were sent to the daughter of deceased member Helen Wiggmore and to Virginia Horan, the sister of deceased member Carolyn Crandall.  A plant and sympathy card was sent to Anne Lawson on the death of her husband.  Thank you notes were received from Joyce Udell for the card and plant that was sent on the death of her husband; from Cathy Dillon for her card after her surgery and from Jessica Hewitt, our scholarship recipient.  Information was received regarding the Garden Tour in Marston Mills on June 24, 2007 and the dates of the Master Gardener’s tour on August 4 and 5, 2007.

In the past week, we have had two great events:  

Plant Sale:  Gerie Schumann extended many thanks to all who worked so hard on the Plant Sale and said we will do it again next year.  See Gerie’s attached report. (Click Here

75th Anniversary:  The creative energy, the fabulous setting, the flowers, etc. all contributed to a wonderful occasion.  The bench that we presented to the town was dedicated at Brooks Academy at 10:30 a.m. on June 5, 2007.  Selectmen Ed McManus and Larry Cole were present.  A proclamation was presented from Brooks Academy as well as congratulations from the officers of the Harwich Historical Society.  

Garden Tour:  JoAnn Root is selling tickets today.  The tickets are $12 purchased in advance and $15 if purchased the day of the tour.  The Garden Tour will be held on June 27th with the rain date of June 28th.  JoAnn has the schedule of assignments for the tour.  Those people not working at the tour are requested to bake 2 dozen cookies and deliver them to Brooks Academy around 8:00 a.m. on June 27th.  

Blooming Barrels:  Two people are needed to take over responsibility for the barrels at Brooks Academy.  

Raffle:  Jo Molnar thanked the following for there help in the raffle:  Priscilla Hiscox as the # 1 seller of raffle tickets, Tom Dillon, Mary’s husband for making the potting bench, Joan and Robert Our for their donation of loam and to Bill Otis for his computer skills.  The winners of the raffle were Elaine Gray - the Milton Welt print, Ellen Schipke – the potting bench and a houseguest of Cathy Dillon’s – the loam.  

The Ways and Means Committee announced that they are having a sale today.  With a purchase of a fleece vest, a pair of gardening gloves will be included.  

Marie McGrain announced that 35 have not paid their dues.  Please remit them to Marie as soon as possible.  

Membership:  There are 119 members present today.  

Jean Delaney thanked the Tea Committee for a wonderful tea and for the beautiful flower arrangement.  

New Officers:  Marcia Bearse read the list of nominated officers for the years 2007-2008 and 2008-2009.  A unanimous vote elected the entire slate.  (See attached copy Click Here).  

Jean Delaney thanked the membership for their commitment during the last two years and for the honor of serving as the President.  Jean will include her Annual Report in the newsletter to published in late August.  Jean the passed the gavel to Margaret Otis,  President-elect.  Margaret presented Jean with a gift for her dedication to the Club during her presidency.  

The meeting was adjourned at 1:13 p.m.
