President Jean Delaney called the meeting to order at 1:04 p.m.  

Secretary’s Report:       Accepted  

Treasurer’s Report:       Accepted  

Corresponding Secretary’s Report:  Sympathy cards were sent to Marie Hayes on the death of her sister; to Nina Rabbio on the death of her stepbrother; to Egle Pedini on the death of her mother-in-law and to Gertrude Duquette on the death of grandson.  A card and flower arrangement was sent to Joyce Udell on the death of her husband, Robert.  

Life Members:  Today life members Lee Clark, Charlotte Clark and Doris Schaub were honored.  Jean Delaney presented each of them with a rose.  

Programs:  Margaret Otis reported that she had “good news” and “bad news”.  The “bad news” is that the trips to Tower Hill and the Newport Gardens have been cancelled.  The “good news” is that she is 99% sure that we will be able to have the Boutique at the Harwich Christmas Stroll.  Carol Stocker, a Boston Globe correspondent, will be our speaker at the June meeting.  

75th Anniversary:  Cathy reports that she and her committee have been working for more than a year on this project.  Cathy and Jeanne Tassinari went to the meeting of the Board of Selectmen requesting acceptance of the Garden Club gift of a granite bench to be placed in Brooks Academy Park in front of the fountain.  This request was approved and the dedication of the bench will be held on June 5, 2007 at 10:30 a.m.

Jeanne Tassinari spoke about the flower arrangements that members are making for the tables at our 75th luncheon.  They should be no higher than a bent elbow and placed in a container that you do not want returned, as they will be raffled off.  Spring flowers were suggested with some lavender in them, as the napkins are lavender.  The arrangements can be dropped off on Tuesday, May 29th at the West Dennis Yacht Club between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.  They may also be dropped off on Wednesday, May 30th before 10:00 a.m.  

Workshops:   On Thursday, May 3, 2007 there will be a workshop at Roots & Roses Nursery at Cape Tech.   On Saturday, May 12, 2007 a workshop will be held at Coastal Land Design for Rose Day.  A pruning and planting demo will take place from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. and again at 3:00 p.m.  Oz Osborne, founder of the Lower Cape Rose Society, will be there to answer questions.  

Raffle Tickets:  Jo Molnar spoke about the raffle tickets for the Plant Sale.  She requested that you send her your checks and ticket stubs.  

Garden Tour: The Garden Tour will take place on June 27, 2007 with a rain date of June 28, 2007.  The shift times for members are 9:30 – 11:30; 11:30 – 1:30 and 1:30 – 3:30.

Members will either be in a garden or at the Brooks Academy Boutique.  

Plant Sale :  Gerie Schumann spoke about the Plant Sale to be held on Saturday, May 26th.  Sign-up sheets were circulated and information sheets on the sale were handed out.  (See attached).  Gerie told us about the latest edition of the Cape Cod Magazine featuring a picture of Glee Janson regarding publicity for the Plant Sale.  Gerie needs two men with trucks on Saturday morning at 6:00 a.m. to pick the  potting bench that Mary Dillon’s husband made and transport it to Doane Park .  Joan Our requested foods that would be appropriate for diabetics would be greatly appreciated.  

Civic Beautification:  Irene Mitchell reported that the Garden Club takes care of 11 parks, the fire station and the post offices in West Harwich and South Harwich .  She passed around clipboards requesting volunteers to sign up for watering these various spots.  

Harwich Farm Fest:  A request from a Farm Fest sub-committee was received for a member(s) of the Garden Club to present a lecture at the Fest on August 14, 2007.  Any interested volunteers please contact Jean Delaney  

Seminar:  Information was received regarding a seminar sponsored by Cape Cod Financial Services with C. L. Fornari as the speaker.  This will held on May 24th.  

A call was received from the Chatham Drama Guild advertising their performance of Anne of Green Gables to be performed July 12 - August 4, 2007.  Post cards were handed out with information about the play.  

Susan Ruane spoke about the Harwich Women’s Club upcoming performance of “Come to Spoon River ” by Linda Kelly.  Linda portrays thirty characters.  It will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 17, 2007 at the Community Center.  Tickets are $15 and may be purchased at RPM Carpets and the House of Morgan.  

Membership:  Joan Garrity reported that we have 119 members today and 4 guests.  

The meeting was adjourned at 1:40 p.m.
