members in the Pledge of Allegiance.
Secretary’s
Report: Corrected
to read “two $2000 scholarships” and filed.
Treasurer’s
Report: Accepted
and filed.
Corresponding
Secretary: Carole
Davis reported that a sympathy card and plant were sent to Mary
Ann Janick whose husband passed away.
A thinking of you card was sent to Rita Hauck and a card
will be sent to Marty Heseltine who is home after surgery.
Membership:
Joan Bittrich reported that 89 members, 6 associate
members, 1 lifetime member and 3 guests are present.
There are applications available for openings in the
Club. New members
will be accepted in June.
Fashion
Show: Over
100 reservations have been received for the Fashion Show
Luncheon in May. Members
are urged to respond since seating is limited.
Design
Workshop: Lynn
Drummond reported that there are three openings for May 8.
Civic
Beautification: Irene
Mitchell reported that the overview at
Wychmere
Harbor
will be beautiful this summer.
Cranberry
Valley
Golf Club is also a new garden project overseen by Margaret
Otis. The club is
re-doing the entrance to Brooks Park with the help of Cape Cod
Tech.
Horticulture:
Elaine Sampson said the workshop at
Small
Gardens
on May 5 is full but encouraged members to sign up on the wait
list since there are often cancellations.
Conservation
Trust: Geri
Schurmann reminded us of the dinner and walks sponsored by the
Harwich Conservation Trust.

On April 4 at

there will be a walk at the Bank Street Bog; on May 15 at

What’s
Next: Margaret
reminded members that we would be sharing bus strips with other
garden clubs. The Brewster Garden Club is having a bus trip to
the Garden in the Woods on May 15.

in Brewster on June 13 from

. Ruth Alberding has the tickets for those who signed up for the
Harwich Women’s Club Luncheon and Fashion Show on May 8.
Plant
Sale
: Geri
Schurmann reported that most positions have been filled for the
plant sale but white elephants and baked goods are needed;
deliver baked goods the morning of the sale. Please deliver
annuals to Geri’s house May 5, 6, or 7th. Good
sources for unusual plants are Roots & Roses at Cape Cod
Tech and the Correctional Farm in
Barnstable
(508-375-6520 for hours.) She encouraged members to sell raffle
tickets to people outside of the Club; it’s a good way of
advertising.
House
Tour: Joan
Garrity suggested that the Historic House and Garden Tour,
concluded with a tea at Brooks Academy, be scheduled for June
2009 to more adequately plan for its success.
Program:
Jeanne Tassinari encouraged members and their guests
to sign up for the Bus Trip June 4.
She reminded members to leave suggestions for next
year’s programs in the Suggestion Box.
A rug donated by Claire Murray is being raffled off
(chances one for $5, three for $10) with the winner being drawn
at the Fashion Show. She
thanked all who participated in Art in Bloom and announced the
winners:
