GARDEN CLUB OF HARWICH
GENERAL MEETING January 6, 2008

 Return to Minutes

The meeting was called to order by President Margaret Otis at 12:45 p.m.   Jo Molnar led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance.  Margaret then thanked Mary Reynolds, Rose Coneeny and their committee for making the arrangements for the wonderful “pot luck” luncheon that we had just enjoyed.   Margaret was pleased to see the spouses and friends who joined us for today’s meeting.  Margaret thanked Ruth Alberding for making the 75th anniversary luncheon scrapbook and asked the members to take a minute to look at her beautiful work.  Finally, Margaret thanked the members who worked on the town pole wreaths and the public building wreaths for all their efforts to beautify Harwich over the holiday season.

The Treasurer’s and Secretary’s Reports were accepted and filed.

Corresponding Secretary Sharon Oudemool shared the following information; a “thinking of you” card was sent to Gail Sumner, a get-well card to Rose Marie Maloney, and a sympathy card to the family of life member Connie Collinge, who was 102.  In November, member Nancy Murphy had heart surgery.  She is now at Whittier Rehab Center in Northborough , MA if anyone would care to send her a note.  The club also received a thank-you from the church employees for their Christmas rememberance.

Programs – Jeanne Tassinari announced that next month’s meeting will feature Norma Weinberg, a Master Gardener and herbal educator.  The speaker today will be Michael Lach from the Harwich Conservation Trust talking about saving special places.

Design Workshops – Doris Casey has room in the workshop that will happen on January 15th at 10:00 a.m. at the HCC.  The cost is $10.00 and the theme is “tea for two”.  They will be making a small floral arrangement suitable for a tea tray.  This theme ties into the April program when members will design a table setting and small floral arrangement.

Christmas Boutique – Cathy Dillon thanked everyone who worked on the Christmas Boutique and held up several lost and found items from the shop.  She announced that the boutique made a profit of about $1,100.

The February meeting will include tea at 12:00 .  Volunteers are needed to provide tea sandwiches and small desserts.

The meeting was adjourned at 1:00 p.m.   Jeanne Tassinari introduced Michael Lach who then shared a slide presentation.

Respectfully submitted,

Sharon Oudemool, Recording Secretary
