President,
Margaret Otis, called the meeting to order at 12:45 p.m. after a
lovelytea hosted by the Tea Committee.
Jo Molnar lead the club in the pledge of allegiance.
Secretary’s and Treasurer’s reports were accepted.
Margaret reminded everyone that dues are due by June 15.
CORRESPONDING SECRETARY, Sharon Oudermool, sent
the following cards thispast month:
Sympathy card to the family of Cynthia Hodgson following
her death in May. Cynthia
was a former member and treasurer for two years.
Get well cards were
sent to Joyce O’Neil and Nancy O’Connell on their recent
surgery. A thinking
of you card to Mavis Wiard.
MEMBERSHIP CHAIRMAN, Carrie Wailgum, introduced
her committee and the following new members were welcomed
into the club and presented a plant, a gift and their
membership book: Mary
Frances Sawyer, Carol Powers, Pat Hirtle, Connie Doherty
and Eileen Wyatt. Ruth
Munroe was to be presented a corsage in honor of her becoming a
Life Memberfor her 25 years in the garden club.
However Ruth was not present so Margaret will deliver
this to Ruth.
BUS TRIP: Jeanne
Tassinari announced that there are 3 openings for the bus trip
to New
Bedford
tomorrow, June 4th.
CIVIC BEAUTIFICATION:
Chairman, Irene Mitchell, thanked all her
committee forkeeping up the parks and gardens.Hydrangas were
being planted at Brooks Park with great difficulty.
Landscaper, Bob Kingsbury, has volunteered to plant these
for the club.
Police Chief Mason has thanked the club for all our efforts.
Doane
Park
has been cleaned up. Irene
put out a plea for more volunteers especially to our new
members.Irene presented thank you gifts to the following people
for their continued help: Carol
Donohoe for the W. Harwich Post Office; Doris Wigren for the
Millenium
Park
and
Albro
Park
; and Jo Molnar for the Fire Station.
BLOOMING BARRELS:
The merchants in
Harwich
Port
gave $200 toward
someadditional barrels and plants.
Kaye Grua is retiring from Blooming Barrels and
CoChairman, Shade Cronin presented her with a plant for all her
hard work.
PLANT
SALE
: Chairman,
Gerie Schumann gave a summary of the sale.
Total raised including the bake table, raffle, and white
elephant table was $7046.60. Geri
presented Barbara Smith with a gift for the use of her home for
plant drop off and also the potting project.
Margaret presented Geri with a gift certificate to the
Sea Grille for all her work on the very successful plant sale.
RAFFLE: Chairman,
Jo Molnar, announced the winners of the raffle:
lst prize, the oil painting was won by Barbara Bower;
2nd prize, the potting table made by Tom
Dillon was won by one of our member’s, Linda Felice; 3rd
prize was the bandstand lawn
ornament made by Alan Atkinson and won by Dr. John Roche
Top ticket sellers of 7 books each was Geri Schumann and Kathy
Dillon. Total raffle
sales was $1897.00.
FASHION SHOW:
Jeanne Tassinari thanked all who attended.
The Claire Murray rug raffle was won by Nancy Atkinson.
Total receipts on the raffle was $929.00.
BRIDGE LUNCHEON:
Mimi Foster announced the bridge luncheon will be
Wednesday,October 22 at the Alan Harbor Yacht Club.
Help will be needed.
CHRISTMAS STROLL:
Kathy Dillon stated the stroll will be December 5 and we
hope to have the same store front on
Main Street
in
Harwich
Port.
YEARBOOK Information is needed by June 15th.
NEWSLETTER Information is needed by August lst.
Next general meeting will be Tuesday, September 9, the week
after Labor Day.
OLD BUSINESS:
Lee Clark brought us up to date on the Wild Flower
situation on Route 6 and the “Do Not Mow” signs.
Margaret brought everyone’s attention to the “What Next”
handout that lists activities from June through September.
Business meeting adjourned at 1:25.
Jeanne Tassinari introduced our speaker, Bill Graham, who gave a
very entertaining program on the “Little Black Dress” and
made several lovely floral arrangements that were raffled off at
the end of the program.
