GENERAL MEETING November 3, 2009

The meeting was called to order by President Jeanne Tassinari at 1:05 p.m.   She asked those present to remember life-member Priscilla Hiscox who recently died and quoted The Rev. David Clarke who spoke at her eulogy.  “Loyalty lives and life endures.   You are my friend and I am yours, hats off to you Priscilla.”

The secretary’s report and the treasurer’s report were accepted and filed.  

Membership Chair Sue Hart announced that 98 regular members, 15 life members and 5 guests were in attendance at today’s meeting.  

Corresponding Secretary Carrie Wailgum announced that get well cards were sent to Eileen Flood and Sally Kimball last month.  A sympathy card was sent to the family of Priscilla Hiscox and flowers will be sent to Karen Thompson who husband just died.  

The last workshop for the holiday wreaths that are placed on town poles will happen at the Chamber of Commerce building on Nov. 5th at 9:30 a.m.  

A workshop for the live holiday wreaths placed on public buildings will take place on Nov. 30th at 10:30 a.m. at the Harwich Community Center .

There will be a design workshop on Thursday, Dec. 3rd at 10:00 a.m. at the Community Center.  The cost is $15.00, the design is a mantle arrangement and the theme is “holiday expressions”.  Contact Doris Casey if you wish to attend.

The Blooming Barrels Committee needs fresh greens for the winter barrels and asks members to save evergreen boughs when they prune this month.

The Bridge Luncheon made $2928.50.  Ann Lawson and Mimi Foster, co-chairs were not able to make the meeting but Jeanne read of letter of thanks they sent thanking everyone who worked so diligently on the event.

The Daffodil Bulbs Sale made a profit of $1643.00 and Jeanne thanked co-chairs Laurel Ferry and Nancy Atkinson for their efforts.

The Ways & Means Committee of Aline Glifort and Linda Felice have sold over $300 worth of merchandise so far this year.

Christmas Boutique Chair Geri Schumann gave everyone an update and asked for fresh evergreens for the Nov. 30th workshop at 10:00 a.m. at HCC when the committee will be making arrangement to sell at the boutique during the holiday stroll Friday, Dec. 4th.  The drop-off hours on that Friday are 9 to noon and she asks that items be priced before delivery.  Please bring any clean brown bags or paper shopping bags you may have around the house.  Jeanne Tassinari has donated one of her paintings as a raffle item for the boutique and raffle tickets were available at the meeting.

Peg Erdlen has the current yearbooks.  Please see her if you still do not have your copy.

Everything is ready for next month’s Christmas Luncheon on Tuesday Dec. 8th at 11:30 .  See Carole Powers, Carol Hanlon or Irene Mitchell if you still need a ticket.  Remember that there will be a $5.00 Yankee swap at each table and that we will be collecting a cash donation for teen-age boys.  The MGM Singers will provide entertainment.

Flyers were handed out about the January “pot-luck” luncheon which is being arranged differently this year.  The menu will be salads, quiches and dessert and what you contribute will depend on your place in the alphabet.

Jeanne announced several events outside the club.  The Conservation Trust Dinner is at The Port on Nov. 18th, the annual Gingerbread House Auction is Nov. 15th at the Wequasett Inn, and the Harwich Women’s Club is presenting the “singing trooper” and his wife, Dan and Mary Clark on Nov. 13th at Cape Cod Tech High School at 7 p.m.   Jeanne then thanked the members for all the items brought in for the Children’s Center in Harwich today,

Sharon Oudemool presented a new small fund raising idea to the membership called “open garden days”.  If 10 members volunteer to open their garden, on a day of their choosing, this event will happen next spring and summer.

Lynne Drummond, Program Chair, then presented Bill Graham, professional designer and commentator who gave a wonderful demonstration of holiday floral arrangements and holiday dressing with unique clothing accessories. 

The business meeting was adjourned at 1:25 p.m.
